MARIA NEME COMMUNITY DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY

In a country like Cameroon situated in Sub-Saharan African region, infectious diseases have always been a major public health issue. The laboratory system in Cameroon is still underdeveloped and weak, the creation of this laboratory would help strengthen and improve investigating infectious diseases at the community and provide primary healthcare services.

This medical laboratory is committed to providing the most convenient, friendliest blood testing service to the population of Ngoya and the surrounding area. We will provide a wide range of diagnostic services to clients within the medical field and anyone in need of such service.

We are fully committed to helping the community of Ngoya and surrounding area to investigating to the bottom of their health problems. At our diagnostics, we provide a full range of tests. These follow global best practices with the single goal of making accurate findings of symptomatic problems. Some of the services we offer in our medical laboratory include: phlebotomy, clinical bacteriology, hematology and blood bank, clinical parasitology, histo-cytology, clinical biochemistry, immuno-serology and molecular diagnostic.

Aim

The aim of this laboratory is to come up with a sustainable laboratory that provides state of the art diagnostic care to the community, general population at affordable rates. In attempt to help the less privilege access better laboratory diagnosis and health care.

Our vision

1- To help low income patients (mostly from rural areas) have access to a high quality laboratory services at an affordable cost so that their healthcare providers can prescribe more efficient treatment.

2- The vision also includes training and pedagogical support for laboratory technicians.

Location Ngoya-Yaounde, Cameroon

Ngoya is a village-street located in the central region of Cameroon, with the department of Lekie and sub-division of Okola. It is one of the 68 villages in the Okola community with population of 1907 habitants.

3.0. The laboratory Structure

3.1. Director of the Laboratory

• In charge of the overall functioning of the laboratory, quality management systems, biological and technical validation of all laboratory tests, and general laboratory coordinations. Oversees meetings and supervises the coordinator, all unit/bench heads and auxiliary staffs in ensuring that the laboratory is function in synchrony.

 

3.2.Laboratory Coordinator

• Ensures that all equipments are up to standard and in contact with the maintenance team should in case there are any repairs. Also plays the role of the human resource personnel in ensuring that qualified personnel are working in the laboratory. In charge of creating partnership with external quality control centres to ensure that the laboratory is accredited with the respective accreditation organisations. In charge of ordering of all laboratory equipments and reagents.

 • In charge of drafting safety protocols for the laboratory and ensuring that equipments and laboratory facility is in line with the laboratory biohazard level security at all times. In charge of carrying out training sessions with all laboratory personnel on safety protocols.

• In charge of keeping log of all laboratory equipments and reagents so as providing reports on the monthly, and annual consumption of the laboratory to the Head of the Laboratory.

 

3.3. Finance and Accounting Office

• In charge of keeping the finance of the Laboratory. Keeps records and receipts from all transactions regarding the laboratory and an external body.

 

3.4. Head of Units or Bench Staffs

• Carries out routine laboratory test. Assist in the general function of the laboratory including cleaning.

• In charge of ensuring the general functioning of their bench is smooth and in line with national and international laboratory standards. In charge of creating an internal structure of his/her unit to ensure proper functioning of the lab and building leadership skills of its members.

• Minimum qualifications of a technician degrees with prior laboratory experience and strong research inclination.
